It’s widely known the human propensity to classify everything. From the very first words we spoke in order to understand the things that surround us, everything seemed to be sentenced to fall into categories. In those early attempts to organize the world, the most primitive instincts led us to divide everything into two groups: the good and the bad. This way we could keep it simple but in order. That precise method to assign an adjective to all human and non-human phenomena conditioned our understanding, making room for mysticism. Soon, incredible tales of heroes and villains started to emerge. The good was associated with the pure, the immaculate, the heroic behavior, being the light the example par excellence. On the contrary, the darkness was always related to the evil, the malevolous, the prohibited.

Using the duality that the previous word salad set out, しのりゅー, who is an avid enthusiast of chiptune, came back for a second round of tunes exploring all the shades that are between the extremes. The result is an amazing compilation that, once again, features a facet of chiptune that, even when it’s commonly referenced in games, still has a lot to offer.

Dualidad, pieza clave y sustancia imprescindible en la construcción de todo buen juicio. La transmutabilidad presente hasta en el más pequeño recoveco de los anales de la humanidad nos presenta la más pura subjetividad necesaria para un razonamiento dicotómico y la formación de un análisis crítico sólido y bien fundamentado. El supuesto de dichas contrariedades trae consigo la incesante, y francamente aburrida, idea de conflicto, pero ¿es acaso necesaria en realidad? Basta con sacar la nariz por la ventana para darse cuenta de los límites tangibles de dicha problemática que, aunque en algunos casos más que necesaria, las más de las ocasiones solo es utilizada para justificar la defensa de los propios intereses. En la cotidianidad de la práctica diaria conceptos aparentemente opuestos se conjugan para crear cosas maravillosas. El ejemplo más simple, aunque a la vez el más complejo y antiguo, es el arquetipo de la duplicidad misma: luz y oscuridad. Al cobijo de dicha apreciación milenaria se han forjado obras maestras presentando lo mejor de ambos lados, pues, como es de imaginarse, no es posible uno si el otro. Siguiendo esta lógica, hace un par de años varios artistas del País del sol naciente fueron convocados por しのりゅー (Shinoryu) para crear piezas alusivas a dicha temática y presentarlas en una de las que, hasta ahora, es una de las mejores compilaciones que he escuchado. El día de hoy me gustaría hablar de la secuela de dicho compilatorio. Así que demos un vistazo a 光のチップチューンVS闇のチップチューン対決コンピレーション2, traída a nosotros por novtos.

I’ve always had a fascination with how sounds are interpreted by other people; is it too rough, too high or too intense? Why do people like it? That’s because, in the end, and as almost everything else, music is communication. Sometimes, even without noticing it, I have ended up with my nose between sounds I didn’t fully comprehend at the first listen. Of course, the wrong context could ruin your enjoyment of some music, but there are some albums that seem to remain unchanged regardless of where you listen. That is the case with Ca5’s music. The urban landscapes with shades of drum and bass stand by its own and go straight to the point; whether you are at a rave, in the waiting room of your dentist, or enjoying the afternoon coffee. Just lovely, that’s how anyone who has listened to scythe’s music would describe his style if you asked them. His charming melodies and upbeat rhythms enter the ears but go straight to the heart. This quality made his second album ‘Nighty Night Stories’ win the VGMOnline AGMA 2018 for Best Chiptune Album. This time scythe is back with two LSDj and a whole new batch of tunes that will warm our souls and take our minds to explore the wonders and limits of an incredible fantasy.
